Jacoulet Exhibitions

こちらはフランス出身の木版画家ポール・ジャクリエの展覧会に関する概要です。生前と没後に分け、日本国内と海外での展示を紹介しています。1930〜40年代には日本の百貨店で多くの展覧会が開かれました。1982年のパサデナでの展覧会をきっかけに国際的な関心が高まり、2003年には横浜美術館で重要な展示が開催されました。近年では軽井沢やオーストラリア・ブリスベンのQAGOMAでも展覧会が行われています。

This section presents a chronological and geographical overview of exhibitions featuring the work of Paul Jacoulet. It is organized into two main categories: domestic exhibitions in Japan and international exhibitions, each further divided into those held during his lifetime and after his passing.

During the 1930s and 1940s, the majority of Jacoulet’s exhibitions took place in Japan. Notably, many were hosted by prestigious department stores—institutions that have long played a prominent role in promoting art and culture in Japan through high-profile exhibitions and events.

After Jacoulet’s death in 1960, there was a lull in public exhibitions, particularly through the 1960s and 1970s. Interest in his work began to resurge internationally in the early 1980s, most significantly with the 1982 exhibition at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California. The accompanying catalog by Richard Miles, The Prints of Paul Jacoulet, remains a foundational and widely cited source on Jacoulet’s art and career.

Another milestone in international recognition came with the major 2013 exhibition at the Musée du quai Branly in Paris, which highlighted Jacoulet’s work within the broader context of cross-cultural artistic exchange.

The first two decades of the 21st century have seen renewed attention in Japan, highlighted by the major 2003 exhibition at the Yokohama Museum of Art. More recently, exhibitions in Karuizawa have sought to reconnect Jacoulet with the region where he spent part of his life and creative career.

The most recent international exhibition is currently on view at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) in Brisbane, Australia, as part of the Birds of Passage exhibition, running through January 2026.

These exhibitions—past and present—trace the shifting appreciation of Jacoulet’s work across time and place.
